I think it really is time to look at modifying the junior cycle. I'd love to have more space within the curriculum to do things in class that students are interested in doing. Hopefully, the new changes will allow this.
There are to many needless subjects on the currculum such as Religion and CSPE which you have to study for which takes time from some of the more important subjects such as Maths, English,Irish I'm a TY student in Co. Meath and this was my view on doing the junior cert last year
I started the questionnaire but found it much too technical. I think there should be a separate one for students.
I have just finished my junior cert this year and I felt that we studied too many subjects at once. By the end of the year we were rushing to get alot of the courses finished, especially in history and there was too much new work to do on top of revision.
Also I did woodwork and I didn't think that there was enough time given to finish the project. It would have been better if the brief was given earlier in the year.
I agree that religion and CSPE shouldn't be exam subjects. They are pointless and it felt like a waste of time going to those classes each week.
I also think that there should be a broader range of choice subjects for example drama or PE as an exam subject. 19 July 2010 18:55
From a guidance and counselling perspective, I’d like to see students engage in more practical learning experiences which would involve group work so that they can improve their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. Due to the pressure of a state examination, there is little time for the acquisition of such important life skills.
all this talk this morning in the papers of grades and trends and nothing about what these young people actually learned in their three years. Wrong education debate...again.
I have noticed that Irish students cannot speak English properly. Apart from the use of foul language. They say 'like' at at the end of every sentence. They also say 'you know' at the end of sentences. I recommend that schools implement elocution lessions on how to speak english properly. This should be incorporated as part of the new curriculum.
Students love playing with their laptops. Therefore the school textbooks and notes should be downloaded from the school website. Students should be able to submit their homework on computer to the school website.
Hi my name is *** and I attend *** Community School. I am a senior student now. Doing the Junior Cert has been a great experience 4 me it as showed me what I needed to do to get ready for my Leaving Cert. and 4 life - what a lot of pressure. I am glad to finally get my results. The number one change that I would like to see coming into schools in Ireland is the use of Technology in every day student lives - like the idea of sending your homework to your teacher by web would be so helpful (no more asking 4 homework). Also less books should be needed for class work because the internet has all the information needed. This would also save many families money in buying books and would help with the problems of heavy bags. If any of the Ideas has helped in any way Reply to me @ ********** thanks for your time. ***** **********
I have over 20 years experience working for ICT companies in Ireland in a variety of roles. The key skill gaps I have seen and continue to see is in the areas of interpersonal skills, ability to present and articulate ideas clearly, collaboration and the use technology. I believe the world will continue to become smaller with greater international collaboration and our ability to work across boundaries, articulate, collaborate will be key in how the commerce of tomorrow is done. Therefore I believe the junior cert is an excellent opportunity to instil these confidence based competences. I would like to see more flexibility given to teachers over specific content under a framework that will develop these important life and commercial skills.Currently we are only measuring the ability of an individual to articulate using the written word. Serious consideration should be given to the use of video for evidence of presentation skills and verbal articulation skills.

I do think that languages should be thought with more oral work.I think this is the easiest way for a student to pick up a language.

I'd love to see more drama included in junior cycle
